Zukanorm M 1000 Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Metformin 1000 mg and Vildagliptin 50 mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production, improving insulin sensitivity, and enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, increases incretin levels, thereby stimulating insulin release and suppressing glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner.

The synergistic action of these agents helps achieve better glycemic control by addressing multiple pathophysiological defects associated with type 2 diabetes. Zukanorm M 1000 is recommended as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic parameters in patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy or lifestyle modifications alone. It should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or cardiovascular disease, and regular monitoring of renal function and blood glucose levels is advised.
Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypoglycemia (especially when combined with other antidiabetics), and rare cases of lactic acidosis. This combination therapy offers a convenient and effective option for optimizing glycemic control in suitable patients under medical supervision.
