Sulbactam (250mg) + Cefoperazone (250mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Sulbactam irreversibly binds to beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing them from inactivating beta-lactam antibiotics.
Cefoperazone binds to penicillin-binding proteins, disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis and leading to cell death.
Medical applications
Zostum 500 Injection is a sterile, injectable formulation containing a combination of Cefoperazone 250 mg and Sulbactam 250 mg, designed for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase producing strains. Sulbactam acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhancing the efficacy of Cefoperazone by preventing enzymatic degradation, thereby extending its antimicrobial spectrum. This synergistic combination is indicated for the management of infections such as lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, septicemia, and gynecological infections caused by susceptible organisms. Zostum 500 Injection is administered intravenously or intramuscularly, with dosage and duration tailored according to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors including renal function. The combination is generally well tolerated; however, potential adverse effects may include hypersensitivity reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, and alterations in blood parameters. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Zostum 500 Injection should be used under strict medical supervision to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and minimize the risk of resistance development.
