Sulbactam (1000mg) + Cefoperazone (1000mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Sulbactam irreversibly binds to beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing them from inactivating beta-lactam antibiotics.
Cefoperazone binds to penicillin-binding proteins, disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis and leading to cell death.
Medical applications
ZOSTUM 1000 MG/1000 MG Injection is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefoperazone 1000 mg and Sulbactam 1000 mg, indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin, exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Cefoperazone by preventing enzymatic degradation of the antibiotic, thereby extending its spectrum against beta-lactamase producing bacteria. This injectable preparation is utilized in managing infections such as lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, septicemia, and gynecological infections. ZOSTUM is particularly effective against multidrug-resistant strains and is administered intravenously or intramuscularly as per clinical judgment. Dosage adjustments may be required in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Adverse effects are generally mild but may include hypersensitivity reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, and alterations in coagulation parameters. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. ZOSTUM 1000 MG/1000 MG Injection should be used under strict medical supervision, ensuring appropriate microbiological diagnosis and susceptibility testing to optimize therapeutic outcomes and minimize resistance development.
