Linezolid (600mg)
Active composition
Linezolid binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis and bacterial growth.
Medical applications
Zolichem Tablet contains Linezolid 600 mg, an oxazolidinone-class antibiotic indicated for the treatment of serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). Linezolid exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. Zolichem is commonly prescribed for complicated skin and soft tissue infections, nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia, and infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria resistant to other antibiotics. The recommended adult dosage is 600 mg administered orally every 12 hours for a duration determined by the severity and type of infection, typically ranging from 10 to 14 days. Linezolid demonstrates excellent oral bioavailability, allowing for effective outpatient treatment. Caution is advised in patients with a history of myelosuppression, as prolonged use may lead to hematological adverse effects such as thrombocytopenia, anemia, or leukopenia. Monitoring of complete blood counts is recommended during extended therapy. Zolichem should be used with care in patients receiving serotonergic agents due to the risk of serotonin syndrome. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any component of the formulation.
