Cefuroxime (250mg) + Clavulanic Acid (125mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Cefuroxime binds to penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis and compromising bacterial cell wall integrity.
Medical applications
Zocef-CV 250 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefuroxime 250 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed for the effective treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby disrupting cell integrity and leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Cefuroxime by preventing enzymatic degradation of the antibiotic by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thus extending its spectrum of activity against resistant strains. Zocef-CV 250 is indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections. The combination is particularly useful in treating infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms. It is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored according to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as renal function. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and alterations in liver function tests. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Zocef-CV 250 Tablet should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and to minimize the development of antibiotic resistance.
