Zitalex-DM Tablet ER

Metformin, a biguanide, primarily reduces hepatic glucose production and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity. Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, increases incretin hormone levels, which augment insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. The extended-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, improving patient adherence.

Zitalex-DM should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or a history of lactic acidosis. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, urinary tract infections, and hypoglycemia, particularly when used with other antidiabetic agents. Regular monitoring of renal function, blood glucose, and HbA1c is recommended to optimize therapy and minimize risks.

This combination therapy offers a complementary mechanism of action targeting multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes.
