Zita-Piomet 1000 Tablet SR is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Metformin 1000 mg, Pioglitazone 15 mg, and Teneligliptin 20 mg, designed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity, thereby enhancing glucose uptake and utilization.

Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, functions as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) agonist, improving insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver. Teneligliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, increases endogenous incretin levels, which in turn stimulate insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner.
The sustained-release formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic plasma concentrations, contributing to improved glycemic control with reduced dosing frequency. Zita-Piomet 1000 Tablet SR is indicated as adjunctive therapy to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled by monotherapy. It should be used with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment and contraindicated in those with known hypersensitivity to any component.
Regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and liver enzymes is recommended during therapy to optimize efficacy and minimize adverse effects.
