Zimivir 500 Tablet contains Valacyclovir 500 mg, an antiviral medication primarily used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses, including herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, and varicella-zoster virus. Valacyclovir is a prodrug that converts to acyclovir in the body, inhibiting viral DNA synthesis and replication, thereby reducing the severity and duration of outbreaks. Zimivir 500 is indicated for the treatment of genital herpes, cold sores, shingles (herpes zoster), and for the prevention of recurrent herpes infections in immunocompromised patients.

It is also used to manage chickenpox in pediatric patients. The tablet is administered orally, with dosage and duration depending on the specific condition and patient’s clinical status. Common side effects may include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness, while serious adverse effects are rare but may include renal impairment and neurological symptoms, particularly in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
