Zil-O Tablet contains a combination of Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, formulated to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a variety of bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exerts its effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing cell death.

This combination is particularly useful in treating mixed infections involving both aerobic and anaerobic organisms, such as gastrointestinal infections, genitourinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections. Zil-O Tablet should be used under medical supervision, with dosage and duration tailored to the severity and type of infection.
Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, as well as those with hepatic or renal impairment. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and, rarely, hypersensitivity reactions. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation unless deemed essential by a healthcare provider.
