Sitagliptin (50mg)
Active composition
Sitagliptin inhibits DPP-4, increasing incretin levels, which stimulate insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion.
Medical applications
Zensita 50mg Tablet contains Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin works by enhancing the levels of incretin hormones, which increase insulin synthesis and release from pancreatic beta cells and decrease glucagon secretion from alpha cells, thereby improving glycemic control. Zensita is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin. The recommended dose is 50mg once daily, taken orally, with or without food. Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment. Zensita is generally well tolerated; common adverse effects include nasopharyngitis, headache, and upper respiratory tract infections. Rare but serious side effects include pancreatitis and hypersensitivity reactions. Regular monitoring of blood glucose and renal function is advised during therapy. Zensita does not cause hypoglycemia when used alone but caution is advised when combined with other hypoglycemic agents. This medication should be used under medical supervision, with adherence to prescribed lifestyle modifications for optimal diabetes management.
