Ofloxacin (200mg) + Ornidazole (500mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
Ornidazole disrupts DNA synthesis in protozoan organisms, leading to cell death and resolution of infection.
Medical applications
Zenflox-OZ Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing DNA replication and transcription in susceptible organisms. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, exhibits potent antiprotozoal and antibacterial effects by disrupting DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. This synergistic combination is effective against a broad spectrum of aerobic and anaerobic pathogens, making it suitable for infections such as gastrointestinal infections, genitourinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain protozoal diseases including amoebiasis and giardiasis. Zenflox-OZ is typically administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, and it is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation unless clearly necessary. Adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and, rarely, tendonitis or neuropathy. Proper adherence to prescribed regimens is essential to prevent resistance development and ensure therapeutic efficacy.
