Zefway 50 Oral Suspension contains Cefixime 50 mg per 5 ml as its active ingredient and is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. Cefixime exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Zefway 50 is primarily prescribed for infections caused by susceptible strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute otitis media, pharyngitis, and bronchitis.

The oral suspension formulation facilitates administration in pediatric and adult patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, patient age, and renal function, with typical pediatric dosing ranging from 8 mg/kg/day divided into one or two doses. Zefway 50 is generally well tolerated; however, patients may experience gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain.
Hypersensitivity reactions, including rash and anaphylaxis, although rare, require immediate medical attention. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. As with all antibiotics, completing the full prescribed course is essential to prevent resistance development.
