Levofloxacin (500mg)
Active composition
Levofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial DNA replication.
Medical applications
Yulox 500 Tablet contains Levofloxacin 500 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby preventing bacterial cell division and leading to cell death. Yulox 500 is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, chronic bronchitis exacerbations, and sinusitis; urinary tract infections including complicated and uncomplicated cases; skin and soft tissue infections; and certain types of prostatitis. It is also used in the management of anthrax and plague caused by susceptible strains. The tablet is administered orally, with dosage and duration depending on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors including renal function. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and photosensitivity. Caution is advised in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use, and it should be avoided in pregnant or lactating women unless clearly necessary. Concurrent use with certain drugs such as antacids, sucralfate, or multivitamins containing magnesium or aluminum may reduce absorption. Proper adherence to prescribed dosage and completion of the full course is essential to prevent resistance development.
