Yogamet-GM 1 Tablet PR is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride 1mg and Metformin 500mg, formulated to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production, enhancing peripheral glucose uptake, and improving insulin sensitivity. The synergistic action of these two agents helps achieve better glycemic control than monotherapy alone. Yogamet-GM 1 Tablet PR is indicated for adult patients inadequately controlled on diet and exercise alone or on monotherapy with either component. It is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and conditions predisposing to hypoxia. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as hypoglycemia due to glimepiride. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, renal function, and periodic assessment of lactic acidosis risk is recommended during therapy.
