Yemetil is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, manic phases of bipolar disorder, and severe behavioral problems in children. It is also employed in the management of intractable hiccups and as adjunctive therapy in tetanus. The recommended dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and patient response, with careful titration advised to minimize adverse effects.
Common side effects include sedation, orthostatic hypotension, extrapyramidal symptoms, dry mouth, and weight gain. Due to its potential for causing tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome, regular monitoring is essential.
