Xtratil 500 Tablet contains Cefuroxime 500 mg, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, septicemia, and Lyme disease.

Xtratil 500 is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella species. The tablet is administered orally and is well absorbed, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 2-3 hours. It is important to complete the full prescribed course to prevent the development of resistance.
Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain, as well as hypersensitivity reactions in patients with a history of penicillin allergy. Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Xtratil 500 should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
