Cefuroxime (250mg) + Clavulanic Acid (125mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Cefuroxime binds to penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis and compromising bacterial cell wall integrity.
Medical applications
Xoxe-CV 250mg/125mg Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefuroxime 250mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg, designed for the treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, exhibits bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively targeting both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Clavulanic Acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, preventing enzymatic degradation of Cefuroxime by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby enhancing its antimicrobial efficacy. This synergistic combination is indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and other susceptible bacterial infections. Xoxe-CV is particularly useful in infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains that are resistant to Cefuroxime alone. The tablet should be administered orally as prescribed, with dosage adjusted according to the severity of infection and patient-specific factors such as renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and alterations in liver enzyme levels. Use of Xoxe-CV should be guided by culture and sensitivity testing where possible to minimize resistance development. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins, or clavulanic acid.
