Active composition
Cefuroxime binds to penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis and compromising bacterial cell wall integrity.
Medical applications
Ximoren 500 Tablet contains Cefuroxime 500mg, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and Lyme disease. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death.
Ximoren 500 is administered orally and exhibits good bioavailability, with peak plasma concentrations typically achieved within 2-3 hours post-dose. It is well tolerated, but potential side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Hypersensitivity reactions, including rash and, rarely, anaphylaxis, may occur, particularly in patients with a history of penicillin allergy.
Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment. Ximoren 500 should be used under medical supervision, with the full prescribed course completed to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised when co-administered with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic agents.
This medication should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and light.
