Empagliflozin (25mg) + Linagliptin (5mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Empagliflozin inhibits the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) in the renal proximal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion.
Linagliptin inhibits the enzyme DPP-4, leading to increased levels of incretin hormones, which promote insulin secretion and inhibit glucagon release, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
Medical applications
Xilingio 25mg/5mg Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Empagliflozin 25mg and Linagliptin 5mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, promotes renal glucose excretion by inhibiting glucose reabsorption in the proximal renal tubules, thereby reducing plasma glucose levels. Linagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, enhances incretin hormone activity, increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. This dual mechanism targets hyperglycemia through complementary pathways, improving glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents. Xilingio is administered orally once daily, with or without food. It is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal impairment, or hypersensitivity to its components. Common adverse effects include urinary tract infections, nasopharyngitis, and hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or insulin secretagogues. Regular monitoring of renal function and glycemic parameters is recommended during therapy. Xilingio should be used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan including diet, exercise, and weight control.
