Ofloxacin (0.75% w/w) + Itraconazole (1% w/w) + Ornidazole (2% w/w) + Clobetasol (0.05% w/w)
Active composition
+3 more active ingredients
Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
Itraconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity.
Ornidazole disrupts DNA synthesis in protozoan organisms, leading to cell death and resolution of infection.
Clobetasol binds to glucocorticoid receptors, inhibiting the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes and reducing inflammation.
Medical applications
Xeploderm-Plus Cream is a topical formulation combining Ofloxacin (0.75% w/w), Ornidazole (2.0% w/w), Itraconazole (1% w/w), and Clobetasol (0.05% w/w) designed for the treatment of mixed bacterial, protozoal, fungal infections, and inflammatory dermatoses. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, exhibits potent antiprotozoal and anaerobic antibacterial effects. Itraconazole, a triazole antifungal agent, targets dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, essential for fungal cell membrane integrity. Clobetasol propionate, a potent corticosteroid, exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions, reducing erythema, swelling, and itching associated with dermatological conditions. This combination cream is indicated for complicated skin infections where mixed microbial flora and significant inflammation coexist, such as infected eczema, fungal-bacterial superinfections, and certain protozoal skin conditions. Xeploderm-Plus Cream should be applied topically as directed, avoiding prolonged use to minimize potential corticosteroid-related adverse effects, including skin atrophy and systemic absorption. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to any component and viral skin infections. Use under medical supervision is recommended to ensure appropriate diagnosis and to prevent resistance development.
