Ofloxacin (100mg)
Active composition
Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
Medical applications
Xenfox 100mg Oral Suspension contains ofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections. Indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections, Xenfox functions by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. This mechanism results in the bactericidal activity of the drug. The oral suspension formulation allows for ease of administration, particularly in pediatric and geriatric populations or patients with swallowing difficulties. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, patient age, renal function, and susceptibility of the causative organism. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, as well as potential central nervous system effects like headache and dizziness. Caution is advised in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use, and it is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to ofloxacin or other quinolones. Patients should be advised to complete the full prescribed course to prevent the development of resistance. Xenfox should be stored at controlled room temperature and protected from light to maintain stability and efficacy.
