Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively targeting both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Cefuroxime by preventing the enzymatic degradation of the antibiotic by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum of activity. Xcudcef-CV is indicated for the management of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. The combination is particularly useful in infections caused by resistant strains producing beta-lactamase enzymes.
