Albendazole (200mg/5ml)
Active composition
Albendazole inhibits tubulin polymerization in helminths, disrupting their metabolism and leading to their death.
Medical applications
Xbend Oral Suspension contains Albendazole 200mg/5ml, an anthelmintic agent used for the treatment of a variety of parasitic worm infestations. Albendazole works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules, disrupting essential cellular processes in helminths, leading to their immobilization and eventual death. Xbend Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by nematodes such as Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus (hookworms), Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm), as well as cestode infections including Taenia saginata and Taenia solium (tapeworms). The suspension formulation allows for accurate dosing in pediatric and adult patients who may have difficulty swallowing tablets. Dosage and duration of therapy depend on the type and severity of the infection and should be determined by a healthcare professional. Albendazole is generally well tolerated; however, adverse effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, dizziness, and, rarely, elevated liver enzymes or bone marrow suppression. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Albendazole and during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Liver function tests and blood counts should be monitored during prolonged therapy. Xbend Oral Suspension should be stored at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.
