Ofloxacin (200mg) + Cefixime (200mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
Cefixime disrupts the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial lysis and death.
Medical applications
Weceff-OF Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefixime 200 mg and Ofloxacin 200 mg, designed for the treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death, while Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing DNA replication and transcription. This synergistic action enhances antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Weceff-OF is indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible organisms. The combination is particularly useful in cases where mixed infections or resistant strains are suspected. It is administered orally, with dosing adjusted according to the severity of infection and patient-specific factors such as renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and hypersensitivity reactions. Use of Weceff-OF should be guided by culture and sensitivity testing where possible to minimize resistance development. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or fluoroquinolones, and use during pregnancy and lactation should be under medical supervision.
