Ortisol 250 Tablet contains Cefuroxime 250 mg, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated gonorrhea. Cefuroxime exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. The drug is well absorbed orally and achieves therapeutic concentrations in blood and tissues. Ortisol 250 is generally well tolerated; however, patients may experience side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Hypersensitivity reactions, including rash, pruritus, and in rare cases anaphylaxis, may occur, particularly in individuals with a history of penicillin allergy. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, and dosage adjustment may be necessary. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be under medical supervision. To reduce the risk of resistance, it is essential to complete the full prescribed course.
