Onoff OZ 200mg/500mg Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Ofloxacin 200mg and Ornidazole 500mg, indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exhibits broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing DNA replication and transcription.

Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing cell death. This synergistic combination is particularly useful in managing infections such as gastrointestinal infections, gynecological infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections where mixed aerobic and anaerobic pathogens are involved.
Onoff OZ should be administered as prescribed, typically with food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, and use is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy. Potential side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, headache, and hypersensitivity reactions.
