Clavulanic Acid (125mg) + Amoxycillin (500mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Omniclav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, some bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which can inactivate amoxycillin. Clavulanic Acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protecting amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation and thereby extending its spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing strains. Omniclav 625 is indicated for infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections. The combination is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to amoxycillin alone. Dosage and duration of therapy should be guided by the severity of infection and renal function. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Hypersensitivity reactions, though rare, may occur in patients with penicillin allergy. Omniclav 625 should be used under medical supervision, with caution in patients with a history of liver dysfunction or allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics.
