Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Moxclav DS CP 457mg Oral Suspension is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic product containing amoxycillin (400mg) and clavulanic acid (57mg) per 5mL. This suspension is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections in pediatric patients, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections. Amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, prevents the action of beta-lactamases produced by bacteria, thereby enhancing the efficacy of amoxycillin. The combination of these two agents provides a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Moxclav DS CP 457mg Oral Suspension is administered three times a day, every 8 hours, and is available in a strawberry-flavored suspension. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins.
