Movadol LA Injection is a long-acting injectable formulation containing haloperidol decanoate, a derivative of the butyrophenone class of antipsychotic agents. Each 1 mL ampule contains 50mg of haloperidol decanoate. This product is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, particularly in patients requiring long-term antipsychotic therapy. The decanoate ester of haloperidol provides a prolonged duration of action, allowing for once-a-month dosing. Movadol LA Injection is administered intramuscularly into the buttock region. The recommended initial dose is 50-100mg, with subsequent doses adjusted according to clinical response. Adverse reactions reported with Movadol LA Injection include Parkinsonian symptoms, dystonia, akathisia, and anticholinergic effects. Prolonged QTc intervals and extrapyramidal symptoms have also been reported. Patients should be monitored for these reactions and dosage adjustments made as necessary. Movadol LA Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to haloperidol or its derivatives, and in patients with Parkinson's disease or Lewy body dementia.
