Desmopressin (0.1mg/ml)
Active composition
Desmopressin mimics vasopressin, promoting water reabsorption in the kidneys and decreasing urine output.
Medical applications
Minirin Nasal Spray is a sterile, preservative-free, aqueous solution containing desmopressin acetate (0.1mg/mL) for intranasal use. This medication is indicated for the treatment of nocturia, defined as waking up one or more times during the night to urinate, in patients with diabetes insipidus, noturia due to multiple sclerosis, and noturia due to spinal cord injury. Minirin Nasal Spray works by stimulating the production of vasopressin, a hormone that regulates urine production, thereby reducing the frequency of nighttime awakenings for urination. The recommended adult dose is one spray per nostril, twice daily, with a maximum daily dose of 2 sprays per nostril. Minirin Nasal Spray is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to desmopressin or any of its components, and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients. Common adverse reactions include headache, rhinitis, and nasal congestion. Minirin Nasal Spray is available in 3.5 mL and 15 mL spray bottles.
How to use Minirin Nasal Spray Use this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril. Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose. As you spray, breath gently and keep the head upright. Repeat the same process for the other nostrils.
