Metaday 500 Tablet SR contains Metformin 500 mg, an oral antihyperglycemic agent used primarily in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin belongs to the biguanide class and functions by improving glucose tolerance through decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This sustained-release formulation allows for a gradual release of the active ingredient, promoting better gastrointestinal tolerability and improved patient compliance.

Metaday 500 Tablet SR is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents. It is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, and in conditions predisposing to hypoxia. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort, which often subside with continued use.
Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended to minimize the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious adverse effect. Dose adjustments may be necessary based on clinical response and tolerability. Metaday 500 Tablet SR should be used under medical supervision with appropriate lifestyle modifications.
