Mahaflox Eye Ointment contains Moxifloxacin 0.5% w/w, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye, including conjunctivitis and keratitis caused by susceptible strains. Moxifloxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, resulting in bacterial cell death.

This ophthalmic ointment formulation ensures prolonged contact time with the ocular surface, enhancing drug penetration and efficacy. Mahaflox Eye Ointment is typically administered topically to the affected eye(s) as directed by a healthcare professional, usually one application three times daily. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin or other quinolones.
Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to quinolone antibiotics. Adverse effects are generally mild and may include transient ocular irritation, burning, or discomfort upon application. Patients should avoid contact lens use during treatment unless advised otherwise.
