Mahacef OZ New Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, designed for the treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing cell death. This synergistic combination is particularly useful in treating mixed infections involving both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens, such as gastrointestinal infections, genitourinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections. Mahacef OZ New Tablet should be prescribed based on susceptibility testing and clinical judgment to minimize the development of resistance. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, and caution is advised in those with a history of central nervous system disorders or hepatic impairment.
