Mahacef Dry Syrup contains Cefixime 50mg, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Cefixime exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. The dry syrup formulation is particularly suitable for pediatric patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets, ensuring accurate dosing and improved compliance. Mahacef Dry Syrup should be reconstituted with the appropriate amount of water before administration, and dosing must be adjusted according to the severity of infection and patient’s weight. It is generally well tolerated; however, adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and hypersensitivity reactions including rash and pruritus. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Renal impairment may require dosage adjustment. It is important to complete the full prescribed course to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
