This medication is indicated for patients diagnosed with WHO Group 1 PAH to improve symptoms and reduce the risk of clinical worsening. Macitent 10mg is administered orally, typically once daily, and should be used under strict medical supervision. Prior to initiation, liver function tests and hemoglobin levels should be assessed, as Macitentan may cause hepatotoxicity and anemia.
Common adverse effects include headache, nasal congestion, anemia, and elevated liver enzymes. It is contraindicated in pregnancy due to teratogenic potential; effective contraception is mandatory for women of childbearing potential during treatment and for a specified period after discontinuation.
