Lquin 500 Tablet contains Levofloxacin 500 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, and chronic bronchitis exacerbations. Additionally, Lquin 500 is utilized in managing urinary tract infections, including complicated and uncomplicated cases, as well as skin and soft tissue infections. The mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes critical for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death. Lquin 500 should be administered as prescribed, typically once daily, with or without food, ensuring adequate hydration to prevent crystalluria. Caution is advised in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use, renal impairment, or QT interval prolongation. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and dizziness, while serious but rare effects may involve tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, and CNS effects. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin or other quinolones.
