Loxof OZ Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Levofloxacin 250 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections. Levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing DNA replication and transcription. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and inducing cell death. This synergistic combination is particularly useful in managing infections such as complicated urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections including amoebiasis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and mixed aerobic-anaerobic infections. Loxof OZ should be administered as prescribed, with dosage adjustments based on the severity of infection and renal function. Patients should complete the full course to prevent resistance development. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, and it is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. Monitoring for tendonitis, neuropathy, and central nervous system effects is recommended during therapy.
