Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption, promoting urinary glucose excretion and thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that enhances incretin hormone activity, increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. The complementary mechanisms of action of these agents provide effective glycemic control when used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic drugs, including metformin.
