Lexilid DS Dry Syrup contains Linezolid 100mg/5ml as the active ingredient and is an oxazolidinone-class antibiotic indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive pathogens. It is primarily used in pediatric patients for conditions such as pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and other complicated infections where alternative treatments may be ineffective or contraindicated. Upon reconstitution, Lexilid DS provides a convenient oral suspension form, facilitating accurate dosing and improved compliance in children. Linezolid acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the functional 70S initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. This mechanism confers activity against multidrug-resistant organisms including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). Lexilid DS should be administered as prescribed, with dosing adjustments considered in renal or hepatic impairment. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and reversible myelosuppression with prolonged use.
