Active composition
Torasemide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the renal tubules, promoting diuresis and reducing blood volume.
Medical applications
Leotor 20 Tablet contains Torasemide 20mg, a potent loop diuretic indicated for the management of edema associated with congestive heart failure, renal impairment, and hepatic cirrhosis. Torasemide acts by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride co-transporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, promoting increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, thereby reducing fluid overload and improving symptoms of edema. Additionally, Torasemide facilitates the reduction of blood pressure in hypertensive patients by decreasing plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance. Leotor 20 is typically administered orally, with dosage individualized based on the severity of the condition and patient response. The onset of diuretic action occurs within one hour, with peak effects observed between two to four hours post-administration. Caution is advised in patients with electrolyte imbalances, renal dysfunction, or hypersensitivity to sulfonamides. Common adverse effects include electrolyte disturbances such as hypokalemia, dehydration, hypotension, and dizziness. Regular monitoring of renal function and serum electrolytes is recommended during therapy. Leotor 20 should be used under medical supervision, with attention to potential drug interactions, particularly with other antihypertensives, lithium, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Sulphamoyl derivatives
