Spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist, acts by inhibiting aldosterone receptors in the distal renal tubules, promoting sodium and water excretion while conserving potassium. Torasemide, a loop diuretic, inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, resulting in potent diuresis and reduction of fluid overload. The synergistic action of these agents effectively reduces edema and controls hypertension by decreasing plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance.
