Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Krisclav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the penicillin class, which exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects Amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending its antimicrobial spectrum. Krisclav 625 is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia; urinary tract infections; skin and soft tissue infections; and otitis media. The combination is particularly effective against beta-lactamase producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Haemophilus influenzae. The usual adult dosage is one tablet every 8 to 12 hours, adjusted according to the severity of infection and patient response. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, hepatic dysfunction, or mononucleosis. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and rash. Proper adherence to prescribed dosage and duration is essential to prevent resistance development.
