Amoxycillin inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and death.
Medical applications
Klclav ES Oral Suspension is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 600 mg and Clavulanic Acid 42.9 mg per 5 ml. This preparation is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Amoxycillin by preventing enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending the spectrum of activity. Klclav ES Oral Suspension is particularly useful in infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains resistant to Amoxycillin alone. The suspension formulation allows for ease of administration in pediatric and adult patients unable to swallow tablets. Dosage and duration of therapy should be determined based on the severity and type of infection, patient age, weight, and renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Hypersensitivity reactions, including rash and anaphylaxis, may occur in penicillin-sensitive individuals. Use with caution in patients with a history of allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics.
