Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Cefpodoxime Proxetil inhibits the transpeptidation enzyme involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis.
Medical applications
Kelycef-CV Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation oral cephalosporin, exhibits bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the efficacy of Cefpodoxime by preventing enzymatic degradation of the antibiotic, thereby extending its spectrum to beta-lactamase producing resistant strains. This synergistic combination is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media caused by susceptible organisms. Kelycef-CV is particularly useful in infections where resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is suspected or confirmed. The tablet is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored according to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as renal function. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and, rarely, hepatic dysfunction. Caution is advised in patients with penicillin allergy or history of cholestatic jaundice. Kelycef-CV should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and minimize resistance development.
