Kaiclav 500mg/125mg Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. Amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin-class antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects Amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum of activity. Kaiclav is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. It is particularly useful in infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms resistant to Amoxycillin alone. The dosage and duration of therapy should be tailored according to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances like diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, while hypersensitivity reactions are rare but possible.
