K-Pio-M Tablet ER is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Pioglitazone 15 mg and Metformin 500 mg in an extended-release formulation. It is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients who are inadequately controlled on diet and exercise alone. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), thereby enhancing glucose uptake and utilization. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving peripheral glucose uptake, contributing to better glycemic control. The extended-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, improving patient compliance and minimizing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with immediate-release metformin. K-Pio-M Tablet ER is to be used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan, including diet, exercise, and regular monitoring of blood glucose levels.
