This medication is typically prescribed as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan including diet, exercise, and weight control. It is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to Metformin.

Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, which often subside with continued use. Monitoring of renal function is recommended prior to and during therapy to minimize the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious complication.
