Ivabradine (5mg)
Active composition
Ivabradine selectively inhibits the If current in the sinoatrial node, reducing heart rate without affecting contractility.
Medical applications
Ivazine 5 Tablet contains Ivabradine 5mg, a selective If current inhibitor used primarily for the management of chronic stable angina pectoris and heart failure. Ivabradine acts by selectively inhibiting the pacemaker If current in the sinoatrial node, resulting in heart rate reduction without affecting myocardial contractility or intracardiac conduction. This mechanism helps decrease myocardial oxygen demand, thereby alleviating angina symptoms and improving exercise tolerance. Ivazine 5 is indicated for patients with stable angina who are in sinus rhythm with a resting heart rate of at least 70 beats per minute and who are either intolerant to or inadequately controlled by beta-blockers. Additionally, it is prescribed as an adjunct therapy in chronic heart failure patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF ≤35%) who remain symptomatic despite optimal standard treatment and have a resting heart rate of ≥70 bpm. Ivabradine should be used with caution in patients with conduction abnormalities or bradycardia and is contraindicated in acute decompensated heart failure, severe hypotension, and sick sinus syndrome. Common adverse effects include bradycardia, luminous phenomena, and headache. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on heart rate and clinical response, and therapy should be initiated under medical supervision.
