Ivabradine (5mg)
Active composition
Ivabradine selectively inhibits the If current in the sinoatrial node, reducing heart rate without affecting contractility.
Medical applications
Ivabrad 5 Tablet contains Ivabradine 5 mg, a selective sinus node inhibitor used primarily for the management of chronic stable angina pectoris and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Ivabradine acts by specifically inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, resulting in heart rate reduction without affecting myocardial contractility or intracardiac conduction. This mechanism helps decrease myocardial oxygen demand and improves exercise tolerance in patients with angina. Ivabrad 5 is indicated for patients who are in sinus rhythm with a resting heart rate of at least 70 beats per minute and who are either intolerant to or inadequately controlled by beta-blockers. It is also used as an adjunct therapy in heart failure patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%, in sinus rhythm with a resting heart rate ≥70 bpm, to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to worsening heart failure. The tablet should be administered orally, with dosage adjusted based on heart rate response and clinical condition. Common adverse effects include bradycardia, luminous phenomena, and headache. Ivabrad 5 should be used cautiously in patients with conduction abnormalities or hepatic impairment and is contraindicated in acute decompensated heart failure, severe hypotension, and pacemaker dependency. Regular monitoring of heart rate and clinical status is recommended during therapy.
