Ivabradine (5mg)
Active composition
Ivabradine selectively inhibits the If current in the sinoatrial node, reducing heart rate without affecting contractility.
Medical applications
Ivabid 5 Tablet contains Ivabradine 5 mg, a selective sinus node inhibitor used primarily for the management of chronic stable angina pectoris and heart failure. Ivabradine acts by specifically inhibiting the If current in the sinoatrial node, leading to heart rate reduction without affecting myocardial contractility or intracardiac conduction. This mechanism helps decrease myocardial oxygen demand, thereby alleviating symptoms of angina and improving exercise tolerance. Ivabid 5 is indicated for patients with stable angina who are in sinus rhythm with a heart rate of at least 70 beats per minute and who are either intolerant to or inadequately controlled by beta-blockers. Additionally, it is prescribed for patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) who remain symptomatic despite optimal standard therapy, including beta-blockers. The tablet should be administered orally, typically twice daily, with dosage adjustments based on heart rate response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include bradycardia, luminous phenomena (phosphenes), and headache. Ivabid 5 should be used cautiously in patients with conduction abnormalities, hypotension, or severe hepatic impairment. It is contraindicated in acute decompensated heart failure, sick sinus syndrome, and in combination with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. Regular monitoring of heart rate and clinical status is recommended during therapy.
